York Baby Photographer: A 5 Month Old Baby Shoot at Home

Hello! Here’s another beautiful baby to make your ovaries tingle, ladies! This week I was paid a visit by this photogenic pair and we got some amazing shots.

My newborn and baby shoots take place at home so everyone can feel comfortable and relaxed. You know by now that my style is natural; I don’t go in for the over-posed baby malarkey! For me, it’s about capturing your baby and your family as you really are so that you always have that moment in time to look back on and remember how sweet they were.

I like to keep it pretty simple but I do love to incorporate favourite teddies, blankets and anything really personal to your family. You’ll see in this gallery a photo we used of baby’s Grandad - a lovely, personal touch.

Don’t be put off if you feel your home is a bit small or cluttered. I can (and do!) work with pretty much any scenario. So long as there is a window we’re onto a winner. I may just need to clear a little space and move the odd bit of furniture to make sure the light is flattering and the shots are crisp and clutter-free for the best effect.

Expecting or know someone who is? Or maybe you’re a new parent? I love shooting babies of all ages and stages. Do get in touch for more info.

Now here are some highlights for you to enjoy!

First of the year! A Sheffield Town Hall Wedding

I admire people who opt for Winter weddings! Let’s face it, we can’t rely on dry, warm weather in the Summer in Blighty so at least in Winter we can expect the worst and anything else is a bonus! Michelle and Paul had a real bonus day last week: a crisp, dry and mostly sunny January day for their lovely wedding at Sheffield Town Hall.

After a whopping 14 years of engagement, they finally got around to tying the knot! It was a lovely small and intimate wedding with just their closest family and friends. Even this was bigger than they originally wanted. Wedding plans have a habit of snowballing, don’t they, no matter what scale you are planning!

Michelle rocked up to the town hall in a gorgeous vintage motor from Cupid Carriages looking absolutely stunning in a beautiful red overcoat, vintage-look headpiece and heels, showing off her legs to die for! She later revealed a stylish and flattering knee-length lace number from Viola Unique, Cairns, under the coat which was an inspired choice for their day!

The ceremony was the perfect balance of laughs and emotion. At the end, the guests spontaneously burst into a Sheffield United version of Annie’s Song! Football plays an important part in Michelle and Paul’s life (as you’ll see from their cake!). A highlight, and first for me, was that the ceremony was being transmitted live by video phone to Michelle’s Mum and Dad over in Australia! It must have been a late night for them!

Following the ceremony, we took a few group shots on the walk round to the reception venue. Paul had seen and liked some of my more ‘kooky’ group shot examples in my portfolio and was keen to capture his guests looking ‘goofy’! Fine by me - you know I don’t want people to look or feel too stiff in their shots!

The reception was held at Ego Restaurant which made the perfect, relaxed choice for a fun, low-key wedding with the people most special to them. Speeches first then it was on to drinking, eating and enjoying. I love the speeches part of the day! It is such an honour to be there and I always feel like I get to know the couples really well through the lovely, funny things people say about them. Michelle said Paul had been preparing quite nervously for his speech but he needn’t have worried about it - he was a natural and a funny guy!

Thank you, Michelle and Paul, it was so wonderful to be with you on your wedding day - you are obviously a special couple. 14 years was definitely worth the wait! Wishing you many more years of happiness together.

A Summertime Lake District Wedding - Tom and Zoe

Hasn't it been a cracking Summer so far?! Beautiful weather, BBQs galore and even a good football result! These two totally nailed their choice of time and place to become Mr and Mrs back in June. Choosing a largely outdoor location in the Lake District comes with a heavy risk of rain-as anyone who knows the area will tell you-but not this year! And you'd be pushed to find a more spectacular place in the sunshine than this!

Zoe and Tom, with their close family and friends, made a complete wedding weekend of it, hiring out the stunning Silverholme Manor next to Lake Windermere from Friday to Monday so that they could extend the festivities and make the most of the incredible location. Boy did they choose a good weekend for it!

The wedding day itself was just perfect and I loved working with these two. They are so happy together, up for a laugh, laid-back and happen to be easy on the eye too: a photographer's dream! Oh and Zoe was also willing to trudge through fields for me in her amazing dress - another plus point!

Bridal preparations involved the usual fun-time mix of prosecco, makeup, hairspray, dress adjustments and laughs. You think you have all the time in the world then suddenly it's walk-down-the-isle-time!

The ceremony room itself was filled with lovely light and you could feel the love in the air for this couple.

Following the big "I do"s, we had some great fun with the group shots. My style is relaxed and my couples know that I don't want formal group shots to dominate the day as I want you to be having fun with your guests. But I know it's important for you to commemorate having your loved ones together too. I do love it when guests are prepared to be a little bit silly at this point as it makes for some memorable moments!

We then made the most of the lakeside location for some beautiful shots of the newlyweds. This half an hour together is a great opportunity for any couple to take a little breather away from the crowds for the first time (me and my camera aside!).

What I particularly loved about this day was the totally relaxed vibes. Guests could mooch about in the sunshine on the lawns overlooking the lake and they had everything they needed for a great time right on hand in the house or at the bar. The food was hearty and local: huge, succulent pork pies and slabs of cheese to start, the tastiest bangers and mash as the main event and a cake and cookie table to die for! Prosecco and beer flowed and a great time was had by all!

I love it when couples break with tradition and Zoe showed some real 'Girl Power' by showing the blokes how to do it with a speech which was both funny and moving, and not an ounce of nerves. I was really impressed!

I'm so pleased that Zoe and Tom chose me to photograph their spectacular, pretty, happy, fun and relaxed wedding; it's one that I certainly won't forget! Looking forward to hearing about their next adventures as they navigate this wonderful world together.

York Newborn Photographer - Baby Harris

Oh I love this 'job'! Meeting lovely, proud parents and photographing their brand new mini-people is such a happy experience. I love the gentle atmosphere in a family's home when a new baby has arrived, even if it feels chaotic to them!

This week was no exception when I went to photograph beautiful little Harris. It was the last day of Dad Kenny's paternity leave and the new family had obviously been doing really well adjusting to the feeding and sleeping needs of their new bundle.

As usual with my newborn shoots, we went at Harris's pace, stopping for feeds, changes and breathers when he needed to. I usually include a section when we wrap the baby and they love this! Harris wasn't too sure to begin with but once we adjusted the wrap to let his little arms out, he was happy as Larry and very calm for the rest of the shoot.  Sophie and Kenny commented that it was actually the calmest he had been so far - hooray!

It's funny that newborns are often super-chilled out during their shoots, especially when they are wrapped. They love the lens and will often stare right into it, even though their little eyes haven't adjusted to the world yet. It's amazing. Of course, babies do cry and that's fine too! The it's time to stop for a feed and a cuddle, and I love to capture all those moments too.

Wishing Sophie, Kenny and Harris every happiness in their new life in York and as a family of 3. I'm sure they will have many adventures ahead.

Enjoy some of their highlights below! For more newborn loveliness, see my 'Baby Love' gallery.

York Newborn Photographer - Baby Sadie

This was a special one! A couple of weeks ago, baby on board, I popped over to visit one of my oldest friends, Laura, and meet her new arrival, lovely little Sadie. Our old school friends will remember us as being thick as thieves as will her lovely Mum who put up with quite a lot from our adventurous/imaginative antics back in the day! Happy memories!

Over the years our lives have taken different paths and been busy so we haven't seen much of each other, such is life. Thanks to good old Facebook though we kept in touch sporadically and I was just dying to catch up and meet Sadie when she arrived.

It was such a lovely day and so heart-warming to see Laura take to her new motherhood role like a pro! I brought my camera along of course and even though we didn't do a full-on shoot, we captured some stunning images all in about 20 minutes, if that! I just love the smiles in these shots and the relationship between them shines through, even at just 11 weeks young. I can't wait to see them again soon!
