First of the year! A Sheffield Town Hall Wedding
I admire people who opt for Winter weddings! Let’s face it, we can’t rely on dry, warm weather in the Summer in Blighty so at least in Winter we can expect the worst and anything else is a bonus! Michelle and Paul had a real bonus day last week: a crisp, dry and mostly sunny January day for their lovely wedding at Sheffield Town Hall.
After a whopping 14 years of engagement, they finally got around to tying the knot! It was a lovely small and intimate wedding with just their closest family and friends. Even this was bigger than they originally wanted. Wedding plans have a habit of snowballing, don’t they, no matter what scale you are planning!
Michelle rocked up to the town hall in a gorgeous vintage motor from Cupid Carriages looking absolutely stunning in a beautiful red overcoat, vintage-look headpiece and heels, showing off her legs to die for! She later revealed a stylish and flattering knee-length lace number from Viola Unique, Cairns, under the coat which was an inspired choice for their day!
The ceremony was the perfect balance of laughs and emotion. At the end, the guests spontaneously burst into a Sheffield United version of Annie’s Song! Football plays an important part in Michelle and Paul’s life (as you’ll see from their cake!). A highlight, and first for me, was that the ceremony was being transmitted live by video phone to Michelle’s Mum and Dad over in Australia! It must have been a late night for them!
Following the ceremony, we took a few group shots on the walk round to the reception venue. Paul had seen and liked some of my more ‘kooky’ group shot examples in my portfolio and was keen to capture his guests looking ‘goofy’! Fine by me - you know I don’t want people to look or feel too stiff in their shots!
The reception was held at Ego Restaurant which made the perfect, relaxed choice for a fun, low-key wedding with the people most special to them. Speeches first then it was on to drinking, eating and enjoying. I love the speeches part of the day! It is such an honour to be there and I always feel like I get to know the couples really well through the lovely, funny things people say about them. Michelle said Paul had been preparing quite nervously for his speech but he needn’t have worried about it - he was a natural and a funny guy!
Thank you, Michelle and Paul, it was so wonderful to be with you on your wedding day - you are obviously a special couple. 14 years was definitely worth the wait! Wishing you many more years of happiness together.
