Festival Brides Feature of a Lockdown Wedding in York: Chris and Lou

Helloooo!! I’m delighted to say that this wedding has just been featured on the fabulous Festival Brides, my first feature with them. For the full story of the day in their words, and lots more pictures, take a look here!

It’s been a while since I blogged; the world has been in a dark place and I guess it’s been a bit difficult to think of happy words to share.

Despite everything and the crushing restrictions on the wedding industry, I have been keeping busy shooting some lovely small weddings plus some family and portrait sessions, so I’m feeling pretty lucky.

Even tiny weddings have been on hold for a month, so I thought it would be a good chance to look back and share some of my recent work. Time to get back on the blog!

And where better to start than this wonderful wedding of Chris and Lou which took place in York back in August? This was the first wedding I shot after the long lockdown and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to be a part of!

Like many of my couples at the moment, Chris and Lou had adapted, downsized and scaled back their plans at least a couple of ways before eventually having the day that they did. Until only the week before their day, they were planning a small wedding celebration at the gorgeous Grays Court Hotel but Boris scuppered that plan right at the last minute by reducing guest size to only 6 people (including the bride and groom).

After a few tears, more stress and a re-think, they decided to host an outdoor picnic instead near their home by the river in York among some beautiful willow trees. So after a lovely, intimate ceremony at York Registry Office, we all headed back to their house to pick up picnic food, blankets and musical instruments and headed to the river side to celebrate. It was one of those hot Summer’s days and it could not have been more perfect, with bunting, songs, good food, love and friendship in abundance.

I honestly had one of the loveliest days I have had shooting a wedding so it just goes to show that you don’t need to spend a fortune to have an amazing and personal day. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and really felt like I was celebrating with them too. One of Chris and Lou’s guests thought I was an old friend of theirs, so I take that as a huge compliment!

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and safe festive season and here’s hoping for a brighter year ahead.

Amy xx
