Making the most of your wedding day!

Hey there! How’s your 2020 going? Maybe you got married recently and you’re thinking a lot about what an incredible day it was. Maybe you’re getting married this year or next (or even after that!) and you’re looking ahead and making lots of exciting plans.

I’m the same! While I’m still having some lovely baby and family shoots booking in, it’s a quieter time of year for shooting as my wedding season this year starts in March. I’m enjoying this time of busyness behind the scenes on admin. and marketing stuff. And I’ve been spending some time reflecting on my 2019 weddings, looking forward to the weddings of 2020 and loving the bookings coming in for 2021 too!

I’m so happy that I seem to be attracting my dream couples and venues! My style is clear: it’s relaxed, creative and natural. And I love laid-back, stylish couples who want to have fun on their day and aren’t too hung up on tradition.

Now bear with me as the ramblings begin! The point of this blog post is that I have just finished a book that I REALLY enjoyed. I devour books! I’ve always liked reading but I’ve gone through phases in my life when I’ve perhaps not read as much. Since having babies though and spending a lot of time awake during the night when they were babies (and still sometimes now), I started reading more books on my phone during the night. It’s kind of annoying because I’d much rather have a real book in my hands and feel that connection with the author but this way I can keep it dark and I seem to fly through them. It’s just not knowing the blooming title and author half the time that’s the problem!

ANYWAY, the book I have just finished is called East of the Sun by Julia Gregson. It’s set in 1920s India during the era of Gandhi. I chose it because my other half is currently over in India on a little adventure with his Dad so I wanted to feel inspired about the place. Which I was!

Part of the story is about a children’s home in Bombay, orphaned kids who have been rescued from the slums. At the very end of the book, one of the children reads this Sanskrit poem and it really got me thinking:

Look well to this day,

For it is life.

In its brief course lies all the realities of existence.

For yesterday is but a memory and tomorrow only a vision.

I find it so beautiful and it reminded me (I often try to remind myself of this during the challenges of school runs and weekly routines anyway but it’s not always easy) to try to appreciate the little things, moments and especially people in my life.

It also made me think about all my lovely couples and what a wonderful message this is for your wedding day itself, to really try to soak it all in and enjoy it, to almost step back and look at it all if you can. Try not to put too much pressure on yourselves for perfection to the point that you feel stressed. Everyone says this but the day really does fly by in a whirlwind so look at all those people around you that you love in one place and capture it in your mind. Love it!

Having some amazing photos to help you capture this most special day will remind you of all the incredible moments like these and more:
