A Midlands Tipi Wedding at Home - George and Jess

The Autumn leaves are now well and truly falling so thinking back to this wonderful day at the end of Summer seems like a long time ago! I was so lucky that my lovely friend Daisy put me in touch with her brother, George, and his wife-to-be, Jess, when they were planning their wedding. You’ll see why when you see the pics! This couple were childhood sweethearts and have lived in Sydney for several years so it was an extra special occasion for them to be reunited with their UK family and friends, as well as some of their Aussie ‘family’ who came over for the event.

Jess’s parents live in a beautiful cottage in the Midlands with a garden big enough to hold a fabulous tipi and catering tent, so that’s what they did! Preparations took place at home with a gaggle of gorgeous bridesmaids and plenty of prosecco! I had spoken with Jess and George over Facetime and it was great to finally meet them face to face - they were just as friendly and welcoming as I’d expected.

The ceremony was held in their local church, which had been decorated in stunning style with candles and flower arrangements made by Jess. Her design skills shone throughout the day! There were plenty of moving moments!

Then it was back to the tipi to get the party started! The good old British weather kept us on our toes with a fair bit of drizzle and a sprinkling of chill thrown in but it wasn’t going to dampen anyone’s spirits and the sun did come out at points so guests could enjoy the garden with an Aperol spritz or 5! These two know a thing or two about a party seeing as George has made it as a successful bar owner over in Oz. I loved the ‘Minnie’ bar, named after their beautiful baby girl. The cocktails definitely got a hammering later on!

There were some brilliant speeches after dinner and in a break with tradition, George and his second best man Sonny, who had come over from Sydney, took to the stage later on, mid-dance party. Now I’m definitely getting soft with age because this best man’s speech had me laughing my head off one minute and properly choked the next! Most of the audience were sobbing like babies too! These three are clearly like family to each other in Australia..

As the light went down, the tipi and garden were absolutely beautiful, sparkling from the rafters with fairy lights and flames: stunning!

There was a really relaxed vibe to this wedding which I loved: great friends and family, delicious homely food, drinks flowing, lots of chat, pumping tunes and plenty of fun on the dance floor! There was so much love in the room.

Finally, a special shout out to ‘Del Boy’, Jess’s favourite horse. Oh yes, there just happened to be some pretty stables at the bottom of the garden where we shot some portraits including Del. Thankfully, George managed to avoid an allergy attack. Didn’t know about that until after we got the ring shot. Phew!

George and Jess, I loved meeting you, Minnie and all your lovely family and friends. Wishing you a lifetime of marital happiness. I’m sure it’s tough over there in the Sydney sunshine!

Thank you!
