A Sparkly York Wedding at The Normans: Anna and Olly

HOW good is it to see the sunshine and feel the warmth at last?! Everything looks a lot more sparkly!

It’s got me really looking forward to all the gorgeous weddings coming up this Spring and Summer, as well as thinking of some favourite recent weddings. I haven’t blogged for a LONG time, so I thought I’d share this stunning wedding with Anna and Olly at The Normans from February.

I love working at The Normans. Everything is on one site which helps create a relaxed vibe, the cottage for bridal prep is gorgeous, the ceremony room twinkly and romantic, and there are loads of lovely spots to grab some gorgeous pics. And most important? The food from The Hog and Apple is freaking amazing (the staff aren’t bad either!).

I knew Anna and Olly well already, which always makes for a brilliant experience on the day, because we had done a pre-wedding family shoot last year at Roundhay Park in Leeds. And because they’d had to postpone due to you-know-what, we’d had plenty of chats along the way! They were an absolute dream to work with and so much fun. Any day that kicks off with unlimited offers of tea/coffee and reminders to keep helping myself to wedding grub is going to be a good one!

Highlights of the day? Definitely the music and the dance floor. The New York Brass Band played during the afternoon and they always rock it, and the live sax and percussion from Jonny Ross Music made for some amazing shapes on the dance floor!

But probably the best bit of all was the speeches. Anna tricked us all beforehand into saying her and her dad were just saying ‘a quick few words’ before the meal, but her Dad’s was perfect: really moving and funny. Then Anna absolutely smashed out a brilliant and hilarious speech which was the alternative fairy tale of her and Olly’s love story. Genius!

Olly and his best man followed the meal and we all thought they couldn’t follow what had already been. There was quite a bit of pressure on the best man by this time to come up with something incredible. Neither of them disappointed. I laughed so much my cheeks hurt and it was a pinching myself that this is my job moment. I LOVE it when the speeches are so good!

All in all, a fabulous day with a fabulous family and friends. Anna looked flipping gorgeous in her dress from Rembo Styling with Natasha Coustol florals, and the sparkly gold themes for the bridesmaids worked perfectly at this venue. I also loved the love heart balloons from The Little Balloon Company - the perfect nod to Valentines.

SO glad I got to shoot this wedding, and hope to see Anna and Olly again for some more family photos in the future!
