about amy

Hello! Thanks so much for visiting my site. If you are looking for a relaxed, fresh and creative approach to your big day or some natural and timeless newborn or family portraits, then you have come to the right place! You might want to know a little bit about me first. I have been passionate about photography for as long as I can remember.  Since having children myself in 2013, I took the plunge to turn pro. through a combination of self-teaching and formal training and have not looked back! I’ve photographed babies, children, families and for local businesses since then and have now, due to popular demand, decided to focus on wedding photography, which I am really excited about!

I absolutely love everything about being a photographer: working with a range of fabulous and diverse people, getting creative, bringing a vision to life and most importantly, the buzz I get from  making people happy when they receive their images and realise how special they are.

I'm based in beautiful York but just love to travel so do get in touch if you are planning a wedding further afield. Somewhere warm and sunny goes down particularly well with me! What else can I tell you? I have a happy, bustling family life full of children, love and laughter. Alongside photography, I am an experienced teacher, which comes in very handy when working with children of all ages. Not to mention being able to gently organise people on their wedding day! I love disco, renovating houses, a good book, a glass of wine, foody food, a proper coffee, keeping fit and an addictive box set!

my style

I like natural photographs with the odd formal shot mixed in. There are occasions when we’ll need to gather people into poses – but for the most part, I’d like to be in the background, observing and photographing your day as it happens… I want the real moments between you and your family, your children, friends and guests and of course between you as a couple.

I’d love to tell your story.

My experience as a Mum and also a teacher enable me to build a relaxed, natural relationship with children and adults alike which results in you thriving and feeling at ease in front of the lens, no matter how camera-shy! So don't worry if you feel a little nervous or self-conscious about my camera, this will soon be behind you. I have had tonnes of positive feedback from clients who were amazed at what a fun experience they found their shoot to be and how much they enjoyed it.

When it comes to the style of my images and the editing process, I am all about creating a look for you that will stand the test of time: beautiful and classic images that will make you happy for the rest of your life. So I'm not really into artificial lighting effects or Instagram style filters. I use natural light whenever possible and do all my own post-production, viewing and editing each image individually into a clean, fresh and flattering style. I always aim to get it right'in camera' in term of the exposure, colour balance and composition, so that Photoshop is used as an enhancement rather than a rescue tool!

specialist in un-posed newborn and family portraits

portrait photography

Before taking the plunge into the exciting world of wedding photography, I specialised in natural newborn, children (from the youngest tot to the tallest teen) and family portraiture and I am still in love with this genre, so if you are looking for some beautiful family portraits, do get in touch.

My style of newborn photography is 'un-posed' lifestyle, so if you're looking for a floating wicker basket or a big bow headband, turn away! This is a more relaxed and free-flowing style with a focus on simplicity, connection and storytelling.  I specialise in natural, honest newborn photography, servicing York and surrounds.  Take a look at my  Baby Love  gallery for examples.

A photoshoot with me is fun; I love to have a laugh with you and your kids! I understand that your children might feel most relaxed at your home and I'm happy to meet you there if you prefer. I also love going out on location in natural settings and looking out for special spots that will make each session unique, be it a field of buttercups, a river bank or a bench with a view.

Do not worry if your child is having a bad day; my philosophy is that all the moments of childhood are valuable - smiles, laughter, worries and tears alike will be captured in a sensitive way to create a series of stunning images and memories for you to cherish.
