A Flower-Filled Springtime Wedding in York: Joanna and Jesper

It’s been a busy couple of weeks shooting and editing with 3 galleries sent off on Friday and 3 happy customers, yay!

So it’s time to catch up with a bit of blogging of the highlights of my recent work. The first is this stunning wedding from Gray’s Court in March. Naturally, I was overjoyed to be able to shoot Joanna and Jesper’s wedding here as it is one of York’s hidden gems and such a beautiful venue hidden in a cobbled lane behind York Minster.

Their’s was a totally sophisticated, intimate day with a close group of family and friends. The weather couldn’t have been much better for March which really set off the floral theme of the day and meant guests could enjoy drinks in the garden backing onto York’s city walls. This provided much entertainment for the tourists walking by!

As always, I loved the preparation stage of the day. I had a good explore of the venue and all of the stunning details and floral decorations. Then it was great fun to spend time with Joanna and her Mum while they got dressed and attended to some last minute dress alterations! Joanna looked absolutely stunning in her simple dress from Seni Dey.

The ceremony was perfect , with 2 beautiful readings from special friends.

Joanna and Jesper cut the cake during the drinks reception which I thought was a great idea as guests tucked into the delicious layers before the meal and meant no cake was wasted! What a beautiful cake it was, made by one of Joanna’s friends. Such talent!

After cake, we snuck out to have some fun shooting portraits around the beautiful venue and we just had to include the spectacular Minster backdrop! Don’t they just look gloriously happy together?!

The meal itself was taken in the bar area of Gray’s Court on one long table which was adorned with sumptuous arrays of flowers, candles and fairy lights - so classical and romantic. Jesper is from Denmark and, like the last wedding I blogged, of Joe and Viivi, there was a Scandinavian theme during the meal with some challenges for the guests thrown in, consisting of much banging and subsequent kissing from the bride and groom!

Joanna, Jesper and their families were lucky enough to hire the venue for the whole weekend so there was a really relaxed feel as everyone could kick-back and settle in without the pressure to be anywhere. A perfect celebration for them all, especially as Jesper’s close family had flown in!

This was my first time shooting at Gray’s Court and I can’t wait to go back! I had such a lovely, relaxed day with Joanna and Jesper and just loved the styling and laid-back yet sophisticated atmosphere of their day. Wishing them so many years of happiness to come.

Thanks for having me there!
