Family Photography in York: My Girl, Me and the Buttercups

Helloooo! First of all, I hope everyone is safe and well. How are you bearing up?? I am doing OK, thank you; dealing with lots of ups and downs like most people, I think. I have much to be grateful for which I’m trying to focus on, sometimes more successfully than others!

I’ve not had my camera out much recently. There are a few reasons but mainly I’ve just been focused on the kids and getting through each day. A few creative ideas of projects I could be doing have come to mind but I’ve not really had the time or headspace so I’m trying not to put any non-essential pressure on myself to DO extra ‘stuff’.

However, this week I couldn’t miss the chance to get out amongst the buttercups while they are in bloom. There is a field near us where I got a photograph of my daughter at this time of year when she was 2, when I was just starting out with children’s portraits. It’s still one of my favourite shots. Every year I think I must get out there again but I’ve not always managed it. This time I did and it felt so good to be shooting again. I even got in front of the lens myself for a few shots that my daughter directed. I think it’s important to put myself in those shoes every so often, and didn’t she do well?!

We’ve been sticking strictly to the lockdown rules and I still feel it’s super-important to do so. Sadly for my couples, weddings are looking a long way off yet but I’m hoping that before too long, I’ll be able to resume some outdoor family and engagement shoots (at a social distance of course!) and I’m REALLY looking forward to being able to do that! It’s always great fun and really relaxed.

If you fancy any family or couple portraits, let me know!
